Prevent/Thaw Frozen Pipes

Check the troubleshooting guide about errors and failures.

Prepare to keep it warm during the winter!

KD Navien boiler winter frozen pipe prevention

01 If the temperature of the water for floor heating falls below 10℃
for prevention of frozen pipes
the pump will be activated.
02 If the water temperature falls below 6˚C,
the boiler will start
so the temperature will go up to 21˚C.
03 When the frozen pipe prevention is activated,
the indoor temperature control lamp
will blink in green.
04 If the temperature remains the same,
unplug the power cable and plug it again
and set the temperature.

How to prevent pipes from freezing in the winter?

Keep the power cable plugged
at all times!

Do not close
the gas valve!

Do not close
the valve on the distributor!

Keep the exposed pipes
insulated!

In the cold weather,
open the tap ever so slightly, so the water can drip
on a continuous basis.

For frozen pipe prevention, hot water pipes cannot prevent accidents.
Check the insulation conditions of the pipes and install a water heater if necessary. Contact your local pipe dealer for pipe heaters.
If the pipes are frozen, use hot water or heat(hair dryer) to thaw the third and fourth pipes until it produces hot water. If the water still does not come out, contact your local service center for assistance.

Follow these steps if the pipes are frozen:

It only produces cold water.

Check the position of hot water · direct water pipes!

wall-mounted boiler(third and fourth pipes from the left)
small oil boiler (two pipes connected on the backside)
electric water heater(two pipes connected on the side or bottom)
Thaw both hot water · direct water pipes!

Remove the insulation materials, wrap the frozen pipes with a towel and pour hot water.
You can also use a dryer or heater to thaw the pipes.

If both hot and cold water comes out, the water pipe or meter may be frozen. Contact your local plumber for assistance.
Pouring hot water may cause the pipes to crack. Make sure to use water with a temperature below 60˚C.
It may take a while to thaw frozen pipes depending on the condition.
Take extra caution when using a dryer or heater to avoid overheating that can result in fire or electric shock.
If you cannot thaw frozen pipes, contact your local service provider for assistance.
