News KD Navien Installs Boilers at USFK Bases
Apr 6, 2016

On April 6th, KD Navien wrapped up its installation of 532 boiler units in the first phase of work to install the 'Navien Cascade System,' the company's commercial boiler solution, in the U.S. Army 2nd Infantry Division's Camp Casey.

On the 5th, KD Navien and the USFK had held a ceremony to commemorate the achievement at Camp Casey located in Dongducheon city, Gyeonggi-do province.  Present at the festivities were USFK personnel including First Garrison Commander Jack W. Hefner, along with construction personnel and KD Navien executives.

Inspecting the newly installed facilities, Commander Hefner and other USFK staff expressed their satisfaction at the economy, safety and eco-friendliness of the products, as well as the systematic follow-up management the company promised to provide. They also expressed their anticipation regarding the upcoming installation of additional units.

The cascade system installed by KD Navien is a space heating and hot water system that connects multiple small condensing boilers or water heaters to enable a tailored water and heating supply to buildings. Unlike conventional mid-to-large-sized boilers, the system is able to continue to supply heating and hot water even if some units fail. The system also achieves a fuel savings of 20% or more compared to the conventional mid-to-large boilers used in commercial buildings. Thanks to the substantial reductions it can achieve in greenhouse gas and nitrous oxide emissions, the cascade system has been gaining attention in the market as a highly efficient, eco-friendly energy solution for commercial buildings.

Last year, KD Navien, as part of its joint free condensing boiler supply project with the Seoul Municipal Government, installed a cascade system at the 'House of Love and Sharing' in Yeongdeungpo-gu Ward. The cascade system resulted in a 29% savings in gas bills, a 79% reduction in nitrous oxide (NOx) emissions, and a 23.9% drop in carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions compared to mid-size boilers.

KD Navien, which launched its first cascade system product in 2009, introduced the term 'cascade system' to the market. Since then, the company has exported systems to overseas markets such as the United States and China, where they have been well received.  The installation of the cascade system in Camp Casey thanks to KD Navien's technical prowess, combined with its overseas and domestic sales, have also raised the company’s profile. A KD Navien spokesperson commented that "the fact that the USFK, with its strict quality standards from document review to field assessment, has opted for Navien's cascade system is proof of the product's superb quality," adding that "KD Navien's product, which is the North American market leader, has succeeded in satisfying USFK personnel."

The delivery of the cascade system to the USFK base is the largest single delivery of the system ever in Korea. Usually, cascade systems delivered for commercial use span several to several dozen units at most. In contrast, more than 500 units were installed in the first stage of delivery to Camp Casey, and the completed cascade system will include approximately 1,000 boilers.
